BRITISH Vogue cover girl Ashley Graham has commented on Kendall Jenner’s Pepsi advert, which came under fire for drawing on the protests of the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I think my team probably would have nipped it in the bud before anything happened,” Graham said on US talk show Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“I think it’s unfortunate that happened,” she said in response to a caller question which queried what the model would have done in the same situation. “But hey, she’s moving forward … I was very surprised that nobody said, ‘Hey, this looks like a bad idea right here,’” she added according to US reports.
The two-minute commercial, titled “Live For Now Moments Anthem” , was dubbed a reinterpretation of the rising resistance movement in America and overseas, starring a privileged young white model using a drink from a large conglomerate as a peace offering. Critics compared the image of Jenner as the campaign star to that of schoolgirl Ieshia Evans, who stood up to police during a Black Lives Matter protest in July 2016. The advert was pulled by Pepsi shortly after the critique ensued.
